Pepe Reina may quit Liverpool

Pepe Reina could leave Liverpool
Liverpool's Pepe Reina has hinted that he may quit Liverpool in the summer, the goalkeeper is frustrated at the lack of trophies Liverpool have won the past few seasons. The Spaniard, like other world stars with the merseysiders are bemused with the boardroom's lack of investment into the first-team so they can challenge for honours.

But with the recent takeover from John W. Henry and the New England Sports Ventures, the future is looking bright.

Pepe Reina said, "I signed a six-year contract seven months ago and I'm happy at the club, but every footballer wants to be competing for trophies and winning things," 

Reina is quoted in the this morning's Daily Mail saying, . "I will stay at Liverpool at least until the end of the season.

"I know there are rumours about me leaving, but I want to make it clear that I have no intention of going back to Spain."

He also added how influential former manager Rafa Benitez was in Reina signing with Liverpool, he said,  

"Rafael Benitez was an essential person for this club and the reason I came to Liverpool,"

Christian Purslow resigns

Christian Purslow has stepped down as Liverpool’s Managing Director following last week's £300 million take over from New England Sport Ventures, Purslow will be staying on at Anfield as a non-executive director. A statement from the club read

”Liverpool FC confirms that following the successful sale of the club, Christian Purslow has decided to stand down from his temporary position as managing director. Christian will remain as a non-executive director and will act as a special adviser to the new owners.”

Purslow was brought in by former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in September 2009 and he was a key player in securing the £80 million shirt sponsorship deal with banking giants Standard Chartered.

Purslow added, “I came to LFC to lead the Club through a sale process to get the best overall deal including, vitally, the removal of the debt. I am immensely proud of what we have all achieved. I now look forward to assisting the Owners in any way I can at this exciting time as they drive the Club forward to a bright future.”

NESV complete Liverpool FC takeover

New England Sporting Ventures have completed the £300 million deal of buying Liverpool Football Club, with the drama unfolding all week with outgoing owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett having tried to block the sale of the club earlier in the week. John W. Henry and Tom Werner of NESV who will take over the club was told today that Tom Hicks and George Gillett have folded in their effort to cling onto the club, and would be now pursuing only a legal action for £1 billion in damages which will be rigorously defended in court.

A spokesman for Henry and the New England group commented: "NESV wants to create a long-term financially solid foundation for Liverpool FC and is dedicated to ensuring that the club has the resources to build for the future, including the removal of all acquisition debt.

"Our objective is to stabilize the club and ultimately return Liverpool FC to its rightful place in English and European football, successfully competing for and winning trophies.

"Since 2001, New England Sports Ventures has made successful investments in sports and entertainment properties. Our portfolio of companies, including the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park, New England Sports Network, Fenway Sports Group and Roush Fenway Racing are all committed to one common goal: winning.

"NESV wants to help bring back the culture of winning to Liverpool FC. We have a proven track record, shown clearly with the Boston Red Sox. The team has won two World Series Championships over the past six years. We will bring the same kind of openness, passion, dedication and professionalism to Liverpool FC."

Liverpool on the verge of a takeover

The owners of the Boston Red Sox who are run by New England Sports Ventures have pledged to remove all of Liverpool's debt and stabilize the and turning the Premier League club into winners should its £300 million pound takeover bid be successful."

"NESV wants to create a long-term financially solid foundation for Liverpool FC and is dedicated to ensuring that the club has the resources to build for the future, including the removal of all acquisition debt," they said in a statement."

"Our objective is to stabilise the club and ultimately return Liverpool FC to its rightful place in English and European football, successfully competing for and winning trophies."

"Since 2001, New England Sports Ventures has made successful investments in sports and entertainment properties."

"Our portfolio of companies, including the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park, New England Sports Network, Fenway Sports Group and Roush Fenway Racing are all committed to one common goal: winning."
