Andy Murray Confident Of Beating Rafael Nadal

Andy Murray remains upbeat at beating Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals at Wimbledon, Murray beat Feliciano Lopez on Wednesday in straight sets to book his place in the last four.

The Scot has lost to the Spaniard in their last two grand slam semi-final meetings, but Murray remains confident of beating the Nadal who won the tournament last year.

Murray and Nadal have met six times before at grand slams, with the world number one having come out on top in four of those encounters.

"I believe I can win against him," the Scot said after his triumph over Lopez. "I had chances last year. I was up a break in the third set, had set point on my serve in the second set. I think there was only one break in the first set.

"We both played good tennis. But I just have to have a better game plan.

"Sometimes it comes down to strategy. Sometimes it comes down to having more experience. I just have to go out there and play well and serve well and believe, and I'll have a chance."

Roger Federer recorded his fifth Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title after beating Rafael Nadal 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at the O2 Arena in London on Sunday. The world number two won the first set but then Nadal gathered momentum for the second to level the match. But Federer, 16-time grand slam winner showed his class in the final set, with Nadal surprisingly having no answer for his aggressive play.

Many have questioned whether Federer has lost his touch after losing in the quarter-finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon and with Nadal knocking him off his the top of the rankings earlier in the year. But the Swiss showed he is still a top player and shouldn’t be written off just yet.

"Everything was there," said Federer.

"I think physically I was better than the last two seasons. That obviously makes me be very positive for next year, that I believe I can have another great season in 2011.

"I'm happy I made my ninth final this season. I've won five titles, won a slam. That obviously makes me be very positive for next year.

"I'm just really happy the way I was able to finish the season in style, playing some of my best tennis, really saving the best for last.

"Obviously, beating Rafa in the finals makes it extra special because of the year he had.

"I've had a good season. I don't see how someone can say it's been a bad season. I had some tough losses, sure but you're not going to win every tournament you play.

"After having somewhat of a disappointing clay, Halle, Wimbledon stretch, where I wasn't able to win any tournaments, maybe didn't play some of my best tennis, played a bit passive, it was important that I was able to pick up my game."

Nadal: Don't write Federer off

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal has said that no-one should right off record breaker Roger Federer just yet, the World no one insists that the Swiss is no spent force and is backing the player to add to his 16 grand slam titles.

"He won at the Australian Open and won in Cincinnati (Federer's 17th Masters 1000 title), got to the final in Madrid and Toronto ... so it's a good year for him," Nadal told reporters at this week's Japan Open.

"It's very difficult to always be 100 percent and what Federer did the last seven or eight years is almost impossible to repeat. It's unbelievable."

Nadal has kept us the pace with Federer this season in winning all four grand slam crowns winning last month's U.S. Open to move to nine overall titles.

But the Spaniard has warned that it was far too early to write off Federer, who has won 63 career titles but has slipped to third in the world rankings.

"Of course he is going to challenge to win the big tournaments," said Nadal, who is making his first appearance in Japan this week. "He is still -- what? -- number two or three in the world and his game is still at a very high level."
