Sergio Agüero Eyes Premier League Title

Manchester City new boy Sergio Agüero has set his sights on winning trophies at Eastlands. The Argentine striker has spoken of his delight at joining City and is keen to do well in first season.

Aguero signed for the blue side of Manchester from Atletico Madrid in a deal reportedly to be within the £35million mark. The City new boy has wasted no time in setting himself the target of helping the Eastlands outfit winning the Premier League crown.

"I was very interested in playing here as it's a growing club and I hope that we can grow together," he said.

"I think we have great players and a great team. I am playing at one of the best English teams at the moment and there are many things that can be achieved. We can win many titles and hopefully it will be a top year for us."

Speaking on national team-mate Carlos Tevez saga, Aguero said; "We are good friends and play together in the national team but whatever he does is up to him, I just want to concentrate on playing here.

"If he is here, then that is great. If not, then I will adapt without him. Who is here and who is not does not matter, what is important is that I become part of the team. It is easy to adapt these days."

Andre Villas-Boas Expects City To Challenge For Premier League Title

Andre Villa-Boas has said that he expects Manchester City to challenge for the Premier League title when the new season starts. City have been splashing the cash this summer and yesterday signed Argentine striker Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid in a deal reported to be around the £35 million mark.

The Chelsea boss insists that City will be looking to start the season strong as they aim to win the league, "I think it's pretty clear that they are building a squad to fight for the title," the 33-year-old said.

"It's for Mancini to say what his objectives are but my personal perspective is that they are making good signings and that they can threaten for the league."

The former Porto coach feels it be close race between a number of five clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

"I think Man United as the title holders will be a reference for everybody but you can see the amount of activity Manchester City have had in the market. It's pretty clear they have a title objective as well," he said.

"Liverpool did more or less the same, Tottenham want to get back into the top four so they'll be challenging and Arsenal are always a threat - we haven't seen the last of them in the transfer market - so everybody is strengthening and as long as everybody feels happy with what they have, everybody competes in a different way."

Chelsea have been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, but Villas-Boas suggests he will add to squad is the right player becomes available.

"It all boils down to the evaluation period, there's still plenty of time for those decisions," added Villas-Boas.

"The players that we have shown interest in are young and looking to the future of the club, you might see similar moves in the future from us. It is one of the oldest squads in the Premier League, we respect them and we are happy enough with the quality that we have to challenge for the title but we are also looking into the future.

"We are so comfortable at the moment with what we are getting because of the young players we have. Things for the future are brighter for us in that respect."

Atletico Madrid: Talks To Begin With City Over Aguero

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that talks will begin discussions with Manchester City over a possible transfer for Sergio Aguero within the next 48 hours. Mancini has made it no secret that he would like to sign the striker with Carlos Tevez expected to leave Eastlands before the season starts.

Mancini is keen to find a replacement for their striker whose move to Brazilian side Corinthians collapsed early this week.  Despite this blow to the player the manager still expects Tevez leave this summer.

Mancini has also insisted that should Tevez remain at City, he would still like to sign Aguero. The Atletico striker has made it clear he would like to leave and that he is interested in a move to City.

The Italian believes signing Aguero would be a great addition to City and is keen to sign striker.

"Aguero is young and can start to score a lot. He will become a top striker. He is 23 and now is his time," he said.

"He is like Carlos Tevez and could play with Carlos, or Edin Dzeko or Mario Balotelli.

"He can play as first striker or second striker. He has good technique. After many years in a top club like Atletico Madrid he can play Premier League.

"Aguero is a good player, like Samir Nasri, like Cesc Fabregas, like Robin van Persie - there are a lot of good players in England."

Carlos Tevez Deal To Corinthians Collapses

Carlos Tevez proposed £40million transfer to Corinthians has collapsed after the Brazilian side pulled out of the deal. The Argentine player has expressed his desire to leave Manchester City to be closer to his family and the £40million price tag would only be available to Corinthians on humanitarian grounds so Tevez could be closer to his family.

However, the Brazilian transfer window closes on July 20th, making it impossible to sign players based abroad before it closes today.

"The board of Sporting Club Corinthians hereby officially announce the impossibility of hiring the Argentine striker Carlos Tevez," said the statement.

"While acknowledging the efforts of Manchester City and all involved in the negotiation, more time is needed for the transfer to be achieved, given that the window to sign players from abroad closes on Wednesday, July 20

"We are aware of the dream our fans had of having this player at Corinthians again and we look forward to him being with us in the near future."

Corinthians are still interested in the player, but it seems no deal with be done until the January transfer window which will allow time for negotiating on personal terms.

Tevez is back home following Argentina's Copa America exit, City are keen to lure fellow countryman Sergio Aguero to the club and provide even more competition for places. But after the collapse of Tevez transfer could this spell the end Aguero pursuit and Tevez remain at Eastlands?

Diego Forlan Commits To Atletico Madrid

Diego Forlan has today insisted that he isn’t about to quit Atletico Madrid over the summer, after news that striker partner Sergio Aguero confirmed he will be leaving Forlan moved quickly to re-assure the fans that he will remain at Atletico.

The 32-year-old hitman scored 28 goals last season before winning the Golden Ball at last year's World Cup.

"I insist that I want to continue with this club although every day I am linked with a new club," he told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador.

The striker had been linked to Dubai based club Al Wasl, but the Uruguyan added; "The day I was in Sweden for a publicity event, some papers said that I had travelled to sign in Dubai.

"My situation is rare because the media says I'm not interested in staying with the club but I've said that those stories are not true.

"At the moment I have not received any offer. I still have two seasons (with Atletico) and I am very content there.

"I will only leave Atletico Madrid if an offer is received which is too tempting for all parties."

Atletico Rules Out Real Swoop For Aguero

Atletico Madrid general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin has admitted that striker Sergio Aguero will not be heading to Real Madrid, it had been speculated that the Argentine could join rivals Madrid.

But after Angel Gil Marin spoke to with Real’s president Florentino Perez it was agreed that that Aguero would be for sale for anyone apart from Real in hope of maintaining good working relations between to the two clubs which could become hostile should the striker join the Galacticos.

He (Aguero) is not going to go to Real Madrid," Gil Marin said in El Larguero.
"I called (Real president) Florentino (Perez) to ask him if we could maintain this commitment to not being hostile and he agreed.

"Either a club, that is not Real Madrid, comes in and puts €45m on the table or he stays at Atletico Madrid. We don't want to negotiate with anyone."

English trio Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with Aguero, but so far Juventus are the only side to officially register their interest.

"Atletico Madrid don't have any offers, only a fax from Juventus saying they want to negotiate," Gil Marin said.

"It is a letter saying they are keen to negotiate, but Atletico don't want to negotiate."
Atletico want an end to the saga within the next fortnight and have set a 15th June deadline to conclude any deal.

"We want a decision before 15th June because it is a decision that has huge implications on our sporting plan," Gil Marin added.
