Javier Hernandez Missed Out On Community Shield Encounter

Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez will miss this weekend’s Community Shield against neighbours Manchester City at Wembley, the Mexican has been able struggling with concussion which he received during United's pre-season tour of the USA.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t want to take any risk with striker and has opted to rest Hernandez for the game on Sunday, the Mexican had an explosive start to his Premier League career last season but Fergie feels Hernandez won’t be ready until the end of the month.

Ferguson said: "Chicharito won't be involved for maybe another two or three weeks - considering he had a concussion some years ago we are just playing safe with that but he should be back by the end of August."
Sunday's Community Shield sees United face City for only the second time, but Ferguson suggest he won’t get too carried away with the occasion.

He said: "I have always viewed the Community Shield as a stepping stone to the first game of the season.
"It's very easy to get emotional about this type of game but I don't think we will be changing our policy. There may be two or three players who need the game on Sunday."

Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to secure the service of the former Liverpool man at Old Trafford for another 12 months.

Sir Alex added; "Michael has proved to be a top footballer. It's unfortunate Michael didn't get more opportunities but the form of Chicharito put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable.

Sir Alex Surpasses Sir Matt

Alex Ferguson has today become Manchester United’s longest serving manager, overtaking Sir Matt Busby.

Ferguson joined the Red Devils in November 1986 from Aberdeen and has had overseen the most successful period in the club's history.

With 24 years as manager of Manchester United, he is the longest serving manager.

Fergie is also the longest of all the current League managers.

The Scot has won many accolades and holds many records including winning Manager of the Year the most times in British football history.

In 2008, Sir Alex became the third British manager to win the European Cup on more than one occasion.

Ferguson said: "I think of Sir Matt Busby as being here forever.

"He started at the end of the war and went right through to winning the European Cup in 1968. The timespan seems to be much longer than mine.

On Sir Matt Busby time in charge, Fergie said; "Of course, there are emotional issues. He had to rebuild the team after Munich. There was so much emotion.

"I did not have that. That is the reason he seemed to have been here forever."

Ferguson also admitted that when he took over as Manchester United boss, he didn’t expect to last as long as Sir Matt.

"I could never have imagined that I would surpass Sir Matt's longevity." He said.

"When I came here, my main thought was to win the league and that was my driving force.

"I couldn't visualise that I would end up with 24 years behind me, going into my 25th year. I could never have imagined that in a million years."
