Wayne Rooney could be sold by Manchester United in January to avoid losing the striker for free when his contract expires at the end of next season, the hitman has refused to sign an extension to his his current deal fuelling rumours that a rift between manager Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney does exists. Rooney has struggled to find his form all season with his private life being exposed in the media spotlight, this has bound to have had an effect on the former Everton player and Rooney has become frustrated by a breakdown in his relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, while a relative lack of investment in new players in recent times is also a concern.
