Roberto Martinez has today confirmed that he will remain as Wigan boss, after having talks with Aston Villa it was thought that the Spaniard would become the midlands side new manager follow the departure of Gerard Houllier on health grounds.
Martinez feels a strong debt of gratitude to Wigan and, particularly, the club’s chairman Dave Whelan, who brought him to England as a player and the Premier League as a manager.
Having successfully guided Wigan to Premier League safety for two seasons on one of the league’s smallest budgets, chairman Whelan has offered a pay rise, a contract extension to Martinez and has vowed to invest in training facilities for the club.
